Do you find yourself longing for the refuge of a warm and cozy bedroom during the winter season? It’s understandable to feel that way, especially when temperature drops and it’s cold outside.
When decorating a bedroom in the winter, there are many factors to consider – from lighting to function to all those décor details that will make it more appealing – but what about comfort? What makes for an inviting space in the cold weather?
Here are some design tips for making your bedroom your favorite space for the rest of the winter:
Lighting
Lighting is definitely one of the main things to consider when redesigning a bedroom. In colder months, we tend to spend more time inside, so utilizing different types of lighting is a great way to create the perfect ambiance according to your mood. Try using lighter colors in your decor as they will reflect more light than darker shades. Adding extra lamps is an inexpensive way to create instant character to your décor. Always balance your space by adding two lamps (one on each side), as this makes the room feel more put together, and it also allows you to manipulate how much light you need at a particular moment.
If possible, add dimmer switches to your overhead lights so you can also adjust them based on how much light you need at any given time. Light fixtures are a design statement, and more than ever you can find beautiful options at any price point. Don’t forget to take into account natural light when making your selections. For an even cozier and relaxing mood, use lighting that emits warm temperatures (ideal is between 2700-3000K).
Décor Scheme
Feng Shui experts will tell you that there are specific colors that are most beneficial for each room in your house. Certain colors can be more conducive to productivity, relaxation or creativity depending on where they’re placed. The winter months should present no issues if you stick to a warm color palette throughout your bedroom. Warm whites, creams, oranges and reds are all great options. Not only will these colors brighten your space, but they will also energize you when done right! Gold accessories will also add warmth and work well with a warmer color palette.
Area rugs help anchor any room as well as bring your color palette together. They also help keep your feet warm when getting in and out of bed. Neutral toned area rugs are a good choice if you like to decorate for the seasons or get bored easily. They can be the perfect backdrop to the pops of color coming from your bed linens and accessories.
Adding visual texture in your décor is a smart way to give dimension and interest to any space, especially in the winter. Plush blankets, fur throws, and fluffy pillows create an irresistible bed or chair, easily making your bedroom your favorite spot to relax.
Comfort
Probably the most important factor when putting together your bedroom for the winter, is comfort. Aside from adding visual texture, fluffy throws and pillows will make for a more comfortable, delicious bed to come home to or spend those lazy weekends indoors. Good quality bedding is of the essence, and plenty of pillows a must. Layering is another way to create more comfort by allowing you to adjust to a desired level of warmth at any given time. Always look for materials that will keep you warm – like flannel or fleece – and make sure your duvet or comforter is big enough to snuggle underneath it while watching your favorite shows or movies!
If possible, try to avoid heavy curtains in favor of lighter fabrics that will let natural light into the room. Not only will this help brighten up the space, but it will also help keep you more awake and alert during those long winter days.
Hopefully, this post has inspired you to make your bedroom as cozy and inviting as possible for these chilly months!
